Pack rat auctioning life collection
May 22, 2008
Charles Bowsher has acquired a vast collection of stuff over the years. But the Lexingtonian who admits to being “a pack rat my whole life,” is about to let go of his treasures with a huge Memorial Day sale and auction.
Bowsher, 52, has rented a warehouse space on Angliana Avenue and is filling its 10,000-plus square feet with what is described on his Web site, www.bestlittlehoardhouseinlexington.com, as “bargains, projects and oddities” including, “antique, vintage, and modern” styles.
Retro home decor is a part of it.
“I’ve been told I have a good eye for furniture,” he said.
“I like things with clean lines, I also like things from the ’30s to the ’40s. I’m kind of a design nut.”
Included in the sale: “eight or 10 Lawn-Boy mowers” and “10 or 12 bicycles,” Bousher said, as well as “a good amount of buckets of nuts and bolts and screws, too.”
Part of the proceeds (after the rent for the warehouse is paid and a bit goes to Bowsher and his helpers) will go to charities including Habitat for Humanity, Unicef and the Red Cross.
The sale starts at 8 a.m. Monday, and the auction begins at 11 a.m. at 573 Angliana.

While I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece.
I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
